What’s the difference between a bar stool and a counter stool?
A bar stool has a seat height of about 30–31″ for a 40–42″ bar. A counter stool is about 24–26″ for a 34–36″ counter. Allow roughly 10–12″ between the seat and the bar top.
How much space should I allow per bar stool?
A common guideline is about 24–30″ from the center of one stool to the next, depending on the stool’s width and whether it swivels. Every product page lists the stool’s width.
Do you have bar stools in stock?
Yes. Our Quick Ship program keeps bar and counter stools in stock. Items that are pre-finished, assembled and available only as shown can ship in as soon as 2–3 days, while items with a choice of stain or upholstery options usually take 2–6 weeks.
Do you offer swivel stools?
Yes. Many of our stools come standard with swivel seats, and many other products can be customized with a swivel. Most backless stools come with 360-degree swivels, so guests can turn freely, and most stools with backs come with auto-return swivels that rotate back to face the bar, counter or gaming machine when a guest stands up. Ask your Designform rep about combining swivel seats with bolt-down bases.
How is your furniture built?
For strength and long-term durability. Most of our wood chairs and stools use mortise-and-tenon joinery with very few bolted connections, and our metal frames are fully welded instead of bolted together. Every seating piece is assembled at our factory, so it’s built correctly before it ships.
What are your lead times?
Quick Ship items that are pre-finished, assembled and available only as shown can ship in as soon as 2–3 days of order and payment. Quick Ship items with a choice of stain or upholstery options usually take 2–6 weeks, depending on the product; if you have a rush project, let us know and we’ll see what we can do. Custom orders typically take 14–20 weeks, and many custom products can be rushed and delivered in 8–10 weeks. If you need something sooner, ask your Designform rep and we’ll see whether we can meet your timeline.
Does your upholstered furniture meet fire codes?
Yes. Our upholstered products, including foam and upholstery materials, meet California Technical Bulletin 117-2013 (CAL TB 117-2013), the flammability standard for upholstered furniture. If your project or local fire code requires additional testing or documentation, ask your Designform rep before ordering.
Can I get samples?
Yes. We can send finish swatches so you can see wood stains, metal finishes and upholstery in person, and most chairs and stools are available through our Sample Loan Program for a sit test. Projects of 10 or more pieces receive up to two complimentary seating samples, with shipping covered both ways; for smaller projects, shipping and any sample charges are the client’s responsibility. Samples are a 60-day loan with a credit card authorization on file, and loan samples may show light cosmetic wear from previous use. Contact your Designform rep to request samples.
Do you have a minimum order?
Our minimum order is typically 4 pieces. If you need fewer, ask your Designform rep and we’ll do our best to accommodate your request.
What’s your warranty?
All Designform products are commercially rated. Finishes and upholstery are warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for 1 year from the shipment date, and the structural integrity of the frame is covered for 3 years. Coverage assumes normal commercial use and regular maintenance, including keeping bolts and hardware tight. If a product is defective, send written notice and photos within 30 days of noticing the issue and we’ll repair or replace it. See full warranty terms.
How do I get pricing?
Contact your local Designform sales rep, or a project manager or project administrator in our office, for quotes, samples and lead times. We sell wholesale for commercial projects, to businesses, designers, purchasing firms and anyone furnishing a commercial space, but not for residential or personal use.
