Table Bases

Commercial Table Bases: Cast Iron, Steel and Bolt-Down

The base decides whether a table wobbles, how many guests fit, and how easily the floor gets cleaned. Designform supplies cast-iron and steel bases in dining, counter and bar heights, from compact 22" bistro bases to heavy four-prong bases for large tops.

Sizing a base to the top

  • Match spread to top size. As a rule, the base spread should reach roughly two-thirds of the width of the table top; heavier stone and butcher block tops need wider, heavier bases.
  • Height. Dining about 28–29", counter about 34–36", bar about 40–42".
  • Shape. Round and square single-column bases seat two to four; four-prong and two-prong bases carry rectangular tops and communal runs.
  • Bolt-down. Standard in food courts, airport concourses and high-traffic public seating.

Finishes and construction

Cast iron and steel with commercial powder coat and brass, black and bronze options. Tables ship with tops and bases separate, with hardware supplied, so a base can be replaced without replacing the top.
