Same factory and the same commercial-grade construction behind all of it — but a steakhouse, a taproom and a 900-square-foot fast casual store get specified very differently. Tell your rep which one you are and they will point you at the right frames, finishes, heights and lead times.

A great dining room gets better with age, and so should its chairs. Every Designform piece is design-focused and built from the best-quality materials: solid American walnut, American white oak, American ash and European beech, finished in the finest leathers, faux leathers and fabrics from around the world. Our pieces are made to break in with service and take on the warm, vintage patina that real heirloom furniture develops over time. After years of daily turns, they look worn in, not worn out.

Frequently asked questions

What seat height do I need for a bar vs. a counter?

Bar stools typically have a 30–31″ seat height for a 40–42″ bar. Counter stools have a 24–26″ seat height for a 34–36″ counter.

Can I use my own fabric?

Yes. Most upholstered products accept COM (customer’s own material) or COL (customer’s own leather). We’ll tell you exactly how much yardage or square footage each item needs, and those quantities are also listed on your proposal. We’ll need a swatch of your COM to confirm it can be used on the products you’ve specified. If you send us the COM spec, we can check our records, and if it’s a material we’ve used before, we may be able to approve it without a swatch.

Do you have restaurant furniture in stock?

Yes. Our Quick Ship program keeps chairs, stools and tables in stock. Items that are pre-finished, assembled and available only as shown can ship in as soon as 2–3 days, while items with a choice of stain or upholstery options usually take 2–6 weeks. How do I get pricing?

Contact your local Designform sales rep, or a project manager or project administrator in our office, for quotes, samples and lead times. We sell wholesale for commercial projects, to businesses, designers, purchasing firms and anyone furnishing a commercial space, but not for residential or personal use.

How much space should I allow per seat?

Plan on about 24 inches per seat at bars, counters and dining tables. That gives guests comfortable elbow room. Your Designform rep can help you work out seat counts for your floor plan.

What are your lead times?

Quick Ship items that are pre-finished, assembled and available only as shown can ship in as soon as 2–3 days of order and payment. Quick Ship items with a choice of stain or upholstery options usually take 2–6 weeks, depending on the product; if you have a rush project, let us know and we’ll see what we can do. Custom orders typically take 14–20 weeks, and many custom products can be rushed and delivered in 8–10 weeks. If you need something sooner, ask your Designform rep and we’ll see whether we can meet your timeline.

How is your furniture built?

For strength and long-term durability. Most of our wood chairs and stools use mortise-and-tenon joinery with very few bolted connections, and our metal frames are fully welded instead of bolted together. Every seating piece is assembled at our factory, so it’s built correctly before it ships.

Can you build custom furniture to our specifications?

Yes. Send us your full project specifications, and we’ll review them and let you know which custom pieces we can provide. Our current catalog includes more than 900 products, and over nearly 20 years we’ve built thousands more, so even if you don’t see exactly what you need, there’s a good chance we’ve built something similar.

Can I get samples?

Yes. We can send finish swatches so you can see wood stains, metal finishes and upholstery in person, and most chairs and stools are available through our Sample Loan Program for a sit test. Projects of 10 or more pieces receive up to two complimentary seating samples, with shipping covered both ways; for smaller projects, shipping and any sample charges are the client’s responsibility. Samples are a 60-day loan with a credit card authorization on file, and loan samples may show light cosmetic wear from previous use. Contact your Designform rep to request samples.

Do you have a minimum order?

Our minimum order is typically 4 pieces. If you need fewer, ask your Designform rep and we’ll do our best to accommodate your request.

What’s your warranty?

All Designform products are commercially rated. Finishes and upholstery are warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for 1 year from the shipment date, and the structural integrity of the frame is covered for 3 years. Coverage assumes normal commercial use and regular maintenance, including keeping bolts and hardware tight.
