Stackable Commercial Chairs and Stools for Events and Banquets

Stackable seating earns its keep in any room that changes: banquet halls, hotel ballrooms, multipurpose event spaces, houses of worship, patios that get cleared before a storm, and restaurants that push tables back for private buyouts. Designform Furnishings supplies stackable commercial chairs, arm chairs and stools tested to hold up to 400 lbs, with a 3-year frame warranty.

How high do they stack?

Stack height depends on frame geometry, not just material. As a rule of thumb across our range: metal side chairs stack 6–10 high, wood frames 4–6 high, poly-molded chairs 6–10 high, and outdoor aluminum frames 4–8 high. Arm chairs always stack lower than side chairs. Ask your rep for the stack count on a specific frame before you size your storage room — the difference between 4 and 8 high doubles the floor area you need.

Plan the storage before you buy the chairs

A 200-seat banquet room stacking 8 high needs 25 stacks. At roughly 2 feet square per stack plus aisles, that is a storage room, not a closet. Measure ceiling height too: a stack of 8 metal chairs is often 6–7 feet tall, which staff have to control while moving it.

Protect the chairs from each other

The most common damage on stacking chairs is chairs scuffing each other, not guests damaging them. Specify stacking bumpers or glides where available, train staff to lift rather than drag the top chair off a stack, and keep stacks to the rated height — an over-tall stack is both a scratch source and a tipping hazard.

Carts and ganging

We do not stock stacking carts, but they can be custom made on request — worth doing for any room reset more than once a week, because a cart is what stops staff from dragging stacks across a finished floor. Ganging hardware, which links chairs into fixed rows, is available as a custom option and is required by fire code in some assembly occupancies; check your local requirement for row seating before you order.

Where stacking seating is specified

Hotel ballrooms and conference centers, houses of worship and civic spaces, campus and corporate dining, entertainment venues, mall food courts and any outdoor patio that has to be cleared quickly.

Material choices

See metal chairs for the highest stack counts and the toughest frames, wood chairs where the room needs warmth, and outdoor chairs and stools for patios and pool decks.

Lead times and ordering

Standard production is 14–20 weeks with 8–10 week rush available on most frames. Quick ship in-stock stacking chairs leave in 2–3 business days, which is how most venues handle a last-minute event build. Minimum order is 4 pieces.
