Stella Chair

The Stella Chair is the classic industrial bistro side chair, made from formed steel. A tall, gently curved back rises from tapered square legs, and a lightly scooped seat sits between them, with small cutouts and stamped detailing that give the chair its familiar workshop character. It looks just as good in a single bright color, like the orange shown in the photo, as it does in raw-looking metallic finishes.

Because it is all steel and can be used outdoors, the Stella moves easily from a dining room to a patio or sidewalk café. It is narrow enough for tight layouts at 17.5" wide, stacks for storage, and can be fitted with an optional upholstered seat pad for longer meals. The Stella family is broad, so you can coordinate with the Stella Arm Chair, Stella Grand Chair and Stella Stool across a whole project.

Built for commercial use

The steel frame is welded rather than bolted, tested to 400 lbs and tested internally to meet ANSI/BIFMA standards. It can be used outdoors as well as indoors. It stacks, and ganging hardware may be available depending on the chair. We do not stock stacking carts, but they can be custom made on request. It ships fully assembled and is backed by a 3-year frame structural warranty and a 1-year finish warranty from shipment. Each chair comes standard with heavy-duty nylon glides, suitable for most commercial floor types, including hardwood, tile, stone, concrete and carpet.

Finishes and upholstery

Metal (Metal Option A): a broad palette that includes the Color Finish Series (matte or gloss solids such as black, white, charcoal, red, midnight blue, olive green and aqua, plus colors like warm gray, shadow blue, peacock and seafoam), the Metal Finish Series (matte gunmetal and brushed galvanized) and Premium Finishes (antique brass, brushed copper, dark bronze, rust patina and matte red rust). Custom powder coat colors are also available.

Upholstered seat pad (optional): an upholstered seat pad can be added for extra comfort. For commercial use, we recommend fabrics rated 75,000–100,000 double rubs; COM and COL are accepted, and we will provide the yardage. See our upholstery double rubs guide.

Lead times and ordering

Standard production is 14–20 weeks, and most orders can be rushed to 8–10 weeks. Minimum order is typically 4 pieces, and smaller orders are considered on request. Sample chairs are available for sit tests through our sample loan program.
