Counter Stools

Counter Stools for Commercial Counters and Islands

Counter stools are the seat for 34–36" counters: coffee bar pickup counters, kitchen islands in amenity lounges, tasting-room bars and communal tables in fast casual stores. Seat height runs about 24–26", leaving 10–12" of leg room under the counter. For 40–42" bars, use bar-height stools instead.

What to check before you order

  • Backless or with a back. Backless stools tuck fully under the counter and save aisle space; stools with backs suit guests who linger.
  • Swivel. Available on many models; backless swivels turn 360°, and swivels with backs use auto-return.
  • Material. Metal for heavy public use, wood for warmth, upholstered for comfort.
  • Spacing. Plan about 24–30" from stool center to stool center.

Built for daily service

Welded steel or mortise-and-tenon hardwood frames, welded foot rails, replaceable seats and glides, a 3-year structural frame warranty, and testing to 400 lbs. Custom stains, powder coats and COM/COL are standard options; bolt-down bases are available where stools must stay put.

Lead times

In-stock counter stools ship in 2–3 days through Quick Ship. Custom orders run 14–20 weeks with rush options at 8–10 weeks; minimum order is typically four pieces. Counter stools are common in our coffee shop, fast casual, food court and corporate amenity projects.

Commercial Counter Stools

Counter stools have a 24–26" seat height for 34–36" counters: coffee bars, kitchen-facing counters, communal high tables at counter height, hotel grab-and-go and corporate cafés. They sit a few inches lower than bar stools and are easier to get on and off, which makes them popular for fast casual and all-day cafés.

Measuring for counter stools

  • Leave 10–12" between the top of the seat and the underside of the counter.
  • Allow about 24" per stool, center to center, or 26–30" for stools with arms or swivel seats.
  • Check foot rail height on the product page so guests' feet land comfortably.

Our bar vs. counter stool height guide and bar stool spacing guide cover the details. Most Designform stools come in both counter and bar height, so you can match the same design at a bar and a counter. Every Designform frame is tested to hold 400 lbs and checked internally against ANSI/BIFMA standards, foam and upholstery meet CAL TB 117-2013, and frames carry a 3-year structural warranty (1 year on finish and upholstery). Designers can download Revit and SketchUp files for many models, and we can prepare a 3D model or rendering of any product on request.
