Penny Chair

The Penny Chair is a mid-century-inspired lounge chair with a compact, upholstered body framed by open wood arms. Each arm rises from a tapered front leg, curves back in a smooth arc and meets the side of the back, so the wood reads as a single continuous line. The back carries subtle vertical channel stitching, and the cushioned seat sits at a relaxed lounge height.

Built on a solid wood frame, the Penny is sized to work in pairs or groups, whether flanking a fireplace, filling a lobby nook or furnishing a steakhouse lounge. Choose leather, fabric or your own material, and ash, beech, white oak or walnut for the wood. It coordinates with the Penny 3-Seater Sofa for a complete lounge setting.

Built for commercial use

The Penny's solid wood frame is built with mortise-and-tenon joinery and very few bolted connections, like almost all of our wood products. It is tested to 400 lbs and tested internally to meet ANSI/BIFMA standards, and its foam and upholstery meet CAL TB 117-2013. It ships fully assembled from the factory and carries our 3-year frame structural warranty and 1-year finish and upholstery warranty from shipment. Each chair comes standard with heavy-duty nail-on nylon glides, suitable for most commercial floor types, including hardwood, tile, stone, concrete and carpet.

Finishes and upholstery

Wood (Wood Option B): North American ash, European beech, black painted ash (open pore), beechwood with walnut stain, ashwood with light walnut stain, ashwood with dark walnut stain, American white oak and American walnut.

Leather (Leather Option A): a wide range of standard, deluxe and premium leathers, from classic blacks, browns and creams to rich cognacs, greens and distressed finishes.

Fabric (Fabric Option A): a broad palette of commercial fabrics and tweeds, many rated from 72,000 to 130,000 double rubs.

COM: customer's own material is accepted.

For commercial use we recommend upholstery rated at 75,000 to 100,000 double rubs. COM and COL are accepted, and we will provide the yardage for your material. Our upholstery double rubs guide explains the ratings.

Lead times and ordering

Standard production is 14–20 weeks, and most orders can be rushed to 8–10 weeks. Minimum order is typically 4 pieces, and smaller orders are considered on request.
