Smith Full Back Side Chair

The Smith Full Back Side Chair is the most tailored member of the Smith family. A tall, fully upholstered back with softly rounded shoulders meets a padded upholstered seat, and the whole chair stands on a solid wood frame with tapered legs that angle gently outward. Metal finish options come in black or brushed brass.

With upholstery front and back, it brings lounge-like comfort and a refined, dressed-up look to the dining room, ideal for steakhouses, hotel restaurants and club dining rooms where guests settle in for long meals. Leather or faux leather gives it a classic, polished feel, while fabric softens it for lobbies and lounges. Pair it with the Smith Full Back Stool at the bar for a coordinated look.

Built for commercial use

The Smith Full Back is built with mortise-and-tenon joinery and very few bolted connections, the way almost all of our wood seating is made. It is tested to 400 lbs and tested internally to meet ANSI/BIFMA standards, and its foam and upholstery meet CAL TB 117-2013. It ships fully assembled from the factory and carries a 3-year frame structural warranty and a 1-year finish and upholstery warranty from shipment. Each chair comes standard with heavy-duty nail-on nylon glides, suitable for most commercial floor types, including hardwood, tile, stone, concrete and carpet.

Finishes and upholstery

Wood (Wood Option B): American walnut, American white oak, North American ash, European beech, black painted ash (open pore), beechwood with walnut stain, and ashwood with light or dark walnut stain.

Metal finish: black or brushed brass.

Leather (Leather Option A): a wide range of standard, deluxe and premium leathers, including distressed premium hides in rich browns, greens and reds.

Faux leather (Faux Leather Option B): standard and deluxe faux leathers in a broad palette of neutrals, browns, blues and greens.

Fabric (Fabric Option A): a wide selection of commercial fabrics, including tweeds and performance textiles in many colors. COM is also accepted.

For customer-supplied material, we recommend specifying a commercial-grade textile rated at 75,000–100,000 double rubs. We accept COM and COL and will give you the exact yardage. See our upholstery double rubs guide for more.

Lead times and ordering

Standard production is 14–20 weeks, and most orders can be rushed to 8–10 weeks. Minimum order is typically 4 pieces, and smaller orders are considered on request. Sample chairs are available for sit tests through our sample loan program.
