The Pilot Chair is a sculptural upholstered arm chair with a fluid, organic shell. The back rises high and wide, then dips and sweeps forward into rounded arms that pull in at the waist, creating an open, hourglass-like silhouette with a cutout between back and seat. Four slim, angled wood legs support the shell, adding warmth and a mid-century feel.
Fully upholstered over a solid wood frame, the Pilot is comfortable for long dinners and lively enough to anchor a room in a bold color. It works as a dining arm chair, a host or head-of-table chair, or a statement piece in a lounge. Specify leather, faux leather, fabric or your own material, with the legs in ash, beech, white oak or walnut finishes.
The Pilot's solid wood frame is built with mortise-and-tenon joinery and very few bolted connections, like almost all of our wood products. It is tested to 400 lbs and tested internally to meet ANSI/BIFMA standards, and its foam and upholstery meet CAL TB 117-2013. It ships fully assembled from the factory and carries our 3-year frame structural warranty and 1-year finish and upholstery warranty from shipment.
At nearly 29" wide, plan about 28" or more per seat at the table, and check that the 24.25" arm height clears your table aprons. Our restaurant seating layout guide covers spacing for arm chairs.
Wood (Wood Option B): North American ash, European beech, black painted ash (open pore), beechwood with walnut stain, ashwood with light walnut stain, ashwood with dark walnut stain, American white oak and American walnut.
Leather (Leather Option A): a wide range of standard, deluxe and premium leathers.
Faux leather (Faux Leather Option B): a large selection of standard and deluxe faux leathers, from blacks, whites and grays to rich browns, greens, blues and warm accent tones.
Fabric (Fabric Option A): a broad palette of commercial fabrics and tweeds, many rated from 72,000 to 130,000 double rubs.
COM: customer's own material is accepted (minimums may apply).
For commercial use we recommend upholstery rated at 75,000 to 100,000 double rubs. COM and COL are accepted, and we will provide the yardage for your material. Our upholstery double rubs guide explains the ratings.
