The Edgar Arm Chair with Upholstered Seat pairs a classic Scandinavian mid-century frame with a cushioned seat for longer stays. A wide, gently curved wood veneer back floats above the seat on slim rear posts, and slender steel arm supports reach forward to hold wood armrests. The open frame keeps the chair visually light, while the upholstered seat adds comfort and a place to introduce color or texture.
The solid wood frame is offered in a range of American and European species and stains, and the seat can be specified fully wrapped or as a seat pad in leather, faux leather, fabric or COM. Round tapered legs and stretchers keep the base clean and stable. It coordinates with the full Edgar family of side and arm chairs and appears in our Alpine Lodge and Casino and Gaming collections.
Like almost all of our wood seating, the Edgar is built with mortise-and-tenon joinery and very few bolted connections. It is tested to 400 lbs and tested internally to meet ANSI/BIFMA standards, and its foam and upholstery meet CAL TB 117-2013. The chair ships fully assembled from the factory and is covered by our 3-year frame structural warranty and 1-year finish and upholstery warranty from shipment. Each chair comes standard with heavy-duty nail-on nylon glides, suitable for most commercial floor types, including hardwood, tile, stone, concrete and carpet.
For an armed chair of this width, allow about 26–28" per seat at tables, and confirm the 27" arm height clears your table apron. See our restaurant seating layout guide for spacing and aisles.
Wood (Wood Option B): North American ash, European beech, black painted ash (open pore), beechwood with walnut stain, ashwood with light or dark walnut stain, American white oak and American walnut.
Leather (Leather Option A): a wide range of standard, deluxe and premium leathers, including distressed premium hides in rich browns, greens and reds.
Faux leather (Faux Leather Option B): standard and deluxe faux leathers, from classic black, white and tan to vintage, pebbled and glazed finishes.
Fabric (Fabric Option A): a broad palette of standard and performance fabrics, including tweeds and textured weaves, many rated from 72,000 to 130,000 double rubs. COM is accepted (minimums may apply).
For commercial use we recommend specifying upholstery rated 75,000–100,000 double rubs. COM and COL are accepted, and we will provide the yardage for your material. Our upholstery double rubs guide explains what to look for.
