The Maxwell Chair is a solid wood dining chair with a fully upholstered seat and seat back, finished with brushed brass stretchers and ferrules. The back is a softly curved, upholstered panel that wraps gently toward the sides, giving the chair a tailored, almost club-like presence at the table. Below, slender tapered wood legs are capped in brass at the foot and linked by thin brass stretchers, a jewelry-like detail that catches the light in a dimly lit dining room.
It is a natural fit for steakhouses and refined hotel restaurants, where deep leathers or rich fabrics against warm walnut feel just right. The metal accents are also available in black for a quieter, more graphic look. Built from the best-quality hardwoods and fine upholstery, it is made to break in over time and develop the patina of heirloom furniture. It coordinates with the Maxwell Stool for the bar.
The Maxwell is built with mortise-and-tenon joinery and very few bolted connections. It is tested to 400 lbs and tested internally to meet ANSI/BIFMA standards, and the foam and upholstery meet CAL TB 117-2013. It ships fully assembled from the factory and is covered by our 3-year frame structural warranty and 1-year finish and upholstery warranty from shipment.
Plan about 24" per seat at dining tables, a little more in banquet or private dining layouts. Our restaurant seating layout guide covers table sizes and aisle clearances.
Wood (Wood Option B): American walnut, American white oak, North American ash, European beech, black painted ash (open pore), beechwood with walnut stain, and ashwood with light or dark walnut stain.
Leather (Leather Option A): a wide range of standard, deluxe and premium leathers, including distressed finishes.
Faux leather (Faux Leather Option B): standard and deluxe faux leathers in a broad palette of neutrals, blues, greens and warm tones.
Fabric (Fabric Option A): a large selection of commercial fabrics and tweeds, many rated 72,000 to 130,000 double rubs.
Metal accents: brushed brass or black.
For commercial upholstery we recommend specifying 75,000–100,000 double rubs; see our upholstery double rubs guide. COM and COL are accepted, and we will give you the yardage.
